Le Guerandais Fleur de Sel

In the marshes of Guérande, on the south coast of Brittany, salt is harvested as it has been for centuries: by hand, with a rake, in the late afternoon, when the weather conditions are just right. Les Salines de Guérande, a producers’ cooperative, was formed by a group of salt workers to defend their salt against industrial salts and their marshes against property developers. Every summer, the 200 salt workers who make up the cooperative pool their harvest. Based on essential values such as mutual aid, equality, fairness, and solidarity, the cooperative is animated by an intense group spirit and pride in the product.
